A globally consumed oilseed, valued for its high oil content (40–50%) and protein. Used for direct consumption (roasting/snacking), crushing for oil, and butter production. They possess a rich, nutty flavor.
Export Types
Bold/Runner: Elongated shape, large size. Common counts: 38/42, 40/50, 50/60 (Counts per ounce; lower number = bigger size).
Java/Spanish: Round shape, smaller size. Common counts: 50/60, 60/70, 70/80.

Moisture: Max 7–8%. Admixture: Max 0.5–1%. Damaged/Splits: Max 3%. Oil Content: Min 40–45%. Aflatoxin is a CRITICAL control point and must meet strict limits (e.g., Max 4 ppb for EU or Max 20 ppb for other markets).
Harvest Time
October to November (Kharif/main crop) and February to April (Rabi crop).
Shelf Life
6 to 12 months. Shorter due to high oil content, which is prone to rancidity, and high risk of Aflatoxin development if moisture is not strictly controlled.
